Aaryn Gries Now

She is tops of the list as one of the least-liked contestants, making many controversial and seemingly racist and homophobic comments. She was booed when she exited the show and later apologized for her offensive statements. Now, she works as a lifestyle YouTuber.

Aaryn Gries Eviction

“Big Brother” contestant Aaryn Gries, whose racial and homophobic slurs have sparked a firestorm — and high ratings — for the CBS reality show, has at least one ally — her mother. Just days after Gries was evicted from the “Big Brother” house, Elizabeth Owens is speaking out in a statement to The Times, chastising her daughter but declaring that the remarks are not reflective of Gries’ upbringing or her true character.

“While I love and continue to support my daughter Aaryn, words cannot describe my disappointment in some of her comments made on ‘Big Brother,’” Owens wrote. “These inappropriate comments certainly do not represent the value system under which her father and I have raised her. Aaryn is a young 22-year-old college student that has spent 70 days living in a fishbowl and making mistakes for America to see.”

Gries was kicked out of the “Big Brother” house during the live weekly episode in which houseguests vote off a contestant. She has been fired from her job at a modeling agency as a result of her remarks but is not aware of the fallout because she remains isolated as part of a jury of ousted contestants who will determine the winner on the season finale on Sept. 18. Many of Gries’ remarks came in the early weeks of the contest and were shown on a 24-hour live Webstream.

Referring to African American houseguest Candice Stewart, Gries said, “Be careful what you say in the dark, might not get to see the bitch.” In one episode, she flipped over Stewart’s mattress and mocked her while adopting a stereotypical black accent.

Aaryn Gries Big Brother

She competed on Big Brother 15 back in 2013 at the age of 22. She lasted 70 days in the house, finishing in eighth place. However, it is not her performance as a player that has come to define Aaryn’s Big Brother legacy. Rather, Aaryn is remembered for a series of racist and homophobic remarks, particularly those directed at fellow houseguests Candice Stewart, Helen Kim, and Andy Herren.

She entered the Big Brother house as a college student and model. However, her modeling agency, Zephyr Talent, dropped her after she made such disparaging remarks inside the BB house. As Aaryn competed inside the house, distaste for her outside of the house continued to fester. At one point, fans even put together a petition to have Aaryn expelled from the game. It received over 27,000 signatures. Seven years later, Aaryn is married with three children.

All things considered, Aaryn was an accomplished Big Brother player. But the game of Big Brother cannot be divorced from the social experiment at its core. Aaryn failed wholeheartedly at the social component of the game and suffered the consequences as a result.

She also became a competition threat, winning four  The Head of Household) and one POV (Point Of View throughout her time in the entire competition. Gries managed to survive nine weeks in the competition before being evicted by a vote of 5-0. She placed eighth and was the fourth member of the jury.
