At the time, she was 11 years old, when her mother began counseling her on business, and at the age of 18, she received 50% ownership of Gianni Versace S.p.A. on her birthday.

Her uncle Santo Versace had owned 30% of the fashion empire, and her mother had owned 20% of the empire, but due to a long-standing disagreement between her mother and uncle, her late Gianni willed the remaining 50% of the Versace empire to Allegra. Since then she instantly became worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

Allegra suffered from an eating disorder called anorexia and due to that, she struggled to gain weight all her life. It was one of the reasons for her disinterest in the fashion world, as she hated facing the cameras. The family further released a statement in 2007 which said that Allegra was indeed suffering from a very dangerous eating disorder and added that she was taking the best treatment possible to combat it.
