This happened while they were returning late at night from visiting her maid of honor for her then-upcoming marriage to Dustin Nguyen, when the driver (also one of her bridesmaids) lost control.
The car diverged into the roadside rock face, flipped, hit the safety rail and plunged down an embankment. Vietnamese actress Thuy Trang (who was 27 years old then) was tragically killed in the crash after she sustained internal injuries.
Rockwood was thrown out of the vehicle through a window before its final impact and was rendered a quadriplegic. She was given a 3% chance of regaining motor skills and feeling below her neck by the doctors. However, through physical therapy, she regained partial motion in her left index finger two months after the accident. Three months after the accident, she could touch the top of her head.
