Astrid Menks Bio

Astrid Menks is an American philanthropist but Latvian by birth, who is known as the second wife of a multi-billionaire husband, Warren Buffet. She relocated to the USA to pursue her proverbial American vision and formerly worked as a cocktail waitress at a French Café in the 1970s, which was an upscale night club.

Astrid took over the charity foundations that Susan Buffet, Warren’s first wife, had been running that were under the name of her husband. She is also well known as an antique collector, involved in her own charity works and contributes to the local zoo.

The philanthropist is still seen shopping in the thrift shops and not in luxury stores and boutiques and has managed to maintain her simple life as she is a great wife who takes great care of her home. Astrid Menks also takes care of her stepchildren like they are her own. Astrid Menks was born in 1946 in Latvia.

Astrid Menks Warren Buffett

Astrid had an affair with Warren Buffet for almost 30 years from the late ’70s. Susan Thompson Buffet was the multi-billionaire’s first wife and together they shared a daughter and two sons.

Susan returned to her long-dormant career as a nightclub singer and began working at the same cocktail bar where Astrid Menks worked as a cocktail waitress.

After having been married to Buffett for nearly 25 years, Susan Buffet chose to relocate to San Francisco in 1977, so she could pursue her career as a singer. Before she left Omaha, however, she requested the girls at the bar to look after her husband. She understood Buffett better than most people and knew that he yearned for female companionship. He needed people to take care of him.

In his 2006 interview with Bustle, the multi-billionaire said that the biggest mistake that he ever made was giving up on his marriage when his late wife opened up about her plans of ending her relationship with him. He also told his biographer, Alice Schroeder, that the dissolution of their relationship was his fault,” Susie’s departure was preventable. It was definitely 95% my fault… I just wasn’t attuned enough to her, and she’d always been perfectly attuned to me. She kept me together for a lot of years… It shouldn’t have happened.”

Among those girls at the upclose night club, Astrid soon grew close to him with her caring attitude and bowls of homemade soup. A year later, she started living with him at his white stucco house in Omaha. Astrid knew that Buffett was not looking to remarry and apparently was at peace with that decision.

The former cocktail waitress then got married to Warren Buffett on his 76th birthday which was on 30 August 2006. They exchanged wedding vows in a very intimate low key ceremony in their house. Nevertheless, Warren Buffet never divorced Susan and they continued to see each other. They would even spend months together and collaborate on various projects.

Astrid, Warren, and Susan shared a loving if unusual, relationship. They would appear at events together, often holding hands. Christmas cards that they sent out were signed as “Warren, Susie, and Astrid.”
