Emily Baldwin Earvin "Magic" Johnson Jr is a former US professional basketball player and former basketball executive president of the Los Angeles Lakers National Basketball Association. Often considered the greatest point guard of all time, Johnson played 13 seasons for the Lakers and was named one of the 50 greatest players in NBA history in 1996. After winning the championship in high school and on college, Johnson was selected first in the Lakers' 1979 NBA Draft Competition. He won a championship and a player of the year award in the NBA Finals in his rookie season, and won four more titles with the Lakers in the 1980s in 1991 after it was announced that he was HIV positive, but returned to compete in the 1992 All-Star Game, winning the MVP All-Star Award. After protests from his teammates, he retired again for four years, but returned in 1996, at the age of 36, playing 32 games for the Lakers before retiring for the third and final time.
Over a 13-year career, he was a five-time NBA champion, three-time Finals MVP, and three-time NBA MVP with the Los Angeles Lakers. He was chosen for 12 NBA All-Star games and led the league in assists four times. Following his HIV diagnosis, he won the game's MVP title in the 1992 All-Star game.
