He currently serves as a senior political analyst for FOX News Channel (FNC).

After he, therefore, began his news at Fox News, he was in discussions about starting a Washington-based television news program for the 6 p.m. timeslot. The Lewinsky scandal began in January 1998, and his wife told him about the story that was well known that he should start the show immediately. The Special Report with Brit debuted that evening in that timeslot.

He said at the start of his time at Fox that “we made some progress and developed some audience and the Lewinsky scandal brought up a lot of interest during the 2000 election, but what really did it was the Florida recount–that was tremendous for us because the people were worried about how that could come out in someplace where they could trust the coverage, of people who were conservatives Republicans or neither worried.

And we really made an effort to cover that story well. And it built our audience. The show was the number one cable news program at 6:00 p.m. Eastern timeslot for several years. In July 2008, it was announced that Hume would retire as the anchor of Special Report at the end of the year, but he would remain on Fox News in a different role.
