Judging by her age and looks, you might not know that Camilla Belle has been in the entertainment industry for more than two decades. The Brazilian-American actress made her on-screen debut as a child actress in 1992 in NBC’s Trapped Beneath the Earth. Since then, she has built on her filmography, starring in several works across film and television.

Another evidence of her extraordinary creative talent is the fact that she is also a writer and a producer. The multi-talented woman is just as famous for her roles on-screen as her life off of it. We took a look at some of them, starting with her familial relationship.

Camilla Belle’s Parents Are Also Creatives

Born as Camilla Belle Routh on October 2, 1986, in Los Angeles, California, the actress is the daughter of Cristina Gould and Jack Wesley Routh. Her parents reportedly named her after a Brazilian soap opera character, Camila in Cavalo de Aço. Her mother is a fashion designer while her father is a former country music composer who now owns a construction company.

Camilla is of mixed ethnicity. Her mother is from Brazil and also has Portuguese and Italian ancestry whereas her father hails from Kingman in Kansas but also has roots in Germany and France.

Raised in the Catholic faith, Camilla attended the Católica Elementary School of São Paulo and later, the Marlborough School in Los Angeles.

As a child, she spent a lot of time in Santos, Brazil, her mother’s place of birth. This explains why she speaks Portuguese fluently. Even though she lives in Los Angeles now, she is still particularly drawn to her mother’s hometown as she has spent most of her holidays there.

Her Career Began in the Early 90s

Camilla Belle made her professional debut in a print ad as a nine-month-old baby. When she was just five, she landed a lead role in her first film, Trapped Beneath the Earth, in 1992. Three years later, she landed a small role in the film version of the novel, A Little Princess.

In 1997, Camilla played Cathy Bowman in the science fiction adventure film, The Lost World: Jurassic Park. She then featured in the action film, The Patriot, as Steven Seagal‘s daughter before earning a Youth in Film Young Artist Award nomination for her performance in the movie Practical Magic (1998). She also earned a nomination for her guest appearance on the action crime TV series, Walker: Texas Ranger.

Before the end of the millennium, Camilla Belle starred in the telefilm Replacing Dad which earned her a third Young Artist Award nomination. She also starred in the Disney Channel TV Movie, Rip Girls.

In 2001, Camilla took the lead role in the TV film, Back to the Secret Garden, before deciding to take some time off from acting. She returned with a bang in 2005 when she played a role in the independent film, The Quiet. In 2006, she played a significant role in the remake of the horror film, When a Stranger Calls, and had another lead role in the Warner Bros movie, 10,000 BC.

Over the years, she has appeared in other works like Breakaway, Cavemen, The American Side, Sundown, The Mad Whale, and several others. Most recently, she starred in two episodes of Dollface. However, while Camilla Belle continues to star in films, she is yet to recapture the successes of her first decade as an actress, commercially or critically.

A Look at Camilla Belle’s Most Notable Relationships

Camilla Belle is still unmarried but has been in a series of relationships that ended in a breakup. Outside of romantic relationships, she also has one of the best celebrity friendships in recent history. Here is a closer look at some of her most prominent relationships.

Tom Sturridge (2006-2008)

There were rumors in 2006 that The Quiet star was dating English actor Tom Sturridge. This was fuelled by pictures of the pair out together sharing precious moments. However, neither of them ever confirmed or denied the speculations. By 2008, reports suggested that the duo had gone their separate ways.

Joe Jonas (2008-2009)

Later in 2008, Camilla found love again. She started dating American musician Joe Jonas. The two were spotted many times looking very much in love. Their relationship was said to have started after the actress appeared in the Jonas Brothers Lovebug music video. It went on to last for one year before it ended as they called it quits on July 27, 2009, for unknown reasons. The duo, however, promised to remain good friends.

Other Flings and Short-lived Relationships

Camilla once went on a day date at Brentwood Country Mart with American actor Topher Grace but no relationship grew from it. Presently, Topher is happily married to actress Ashley Hinshaw.

She then dated star American football player Tim Tebow in 2012. The relationship lasted several months before it ended and she got involved with Chad Michael Murray in 2013. Sadly, the duo also split. After the breakup, the rumor mill linked Belle with Spanish singer Enrique Iglesias.

Following her series of ‘failed’ relationships, Camilla Belle seems to have decided to keep her love life away from the limelight. These days, she maintains a low profile and avoids talking about her relationships and affairs.

Camilla Belle’s Rumored Relationship with Maria Sharapova

A quick poke around the internet reveals that Camilla Belle and Maria Sharapova are good friends. But a rumor that continues to thrive is that their relationship might be a little more than that. According to various internet reports, the two of them dated back in 2010, and have maintained a ‘relationship’ since then.

Considering neither Belle nor Maria have come out as bisexuals or gay women, the reports are somewhat confusing. There is also the added fact that Sharapova, who is the more famous of the two, comes from a homophobic society, an added incentive to keep their supposed relationship secret.

One thing is for sure, whatever the true nature of their friendship is, Maria is part of Camilla’s long list of prominent relationships.
