He was named second-team All-Southeastern Conference by the league’s coaches.

Jaguars select CB C.J. Henderson No. 9 overall

After trading their top two corners over the past six months, the Jacksonville Jaguars replenished the cupboard in the 2020 NFL Draft. The Jags made C.J. Henderson the No. 9 overall pick.

The Florida product is an athletic cover corner who can run with wideouts and battle off the line of scrimmage. At 6-feet, Henderson projects as a physical press cover man with size and length to fight bigger receivers and good eyes to play off-coverage. His ball-skills should make him a high-upside corner who can lockdown boundary receivers with shadow capability in the NFL.

During the pre-draft process, some scouts believed Henderson could have a higher upside than No. 3 overall pick Jeffery Okudah, who went to Detroit. The Jaguars traded Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye over the past half-year, giving them a gaping hole at the position. Henderson should step right and provide starting-caliber skills from Day 1 as the Jags remake their defense.

With their second first-round pick — earned in the Ramsey trade with the Los Angeles Rams — the Jags stayed on defense, selecting LSU’s K’Lavon Chaisson. The rusher is a raw athlete with room to grow but can get after the quarterback with quickness to burn the edge. He could help replace disgruntled pass-rusher Yannick Ngakoue if the Jags end up eventually moving on.

Terrell is a local product, who was probably a reach with the 16th overall pick. He had a bad game in the national title showdown against LSU. In two years as a starter, he helped Clemson to a 29-1 record. He finished with 107 career tackles, 20 pass breakups, six interceptions, and forced two fumbles over 1,827 snaps in 44 games (30 starts).

He scored the first points of the College Football Playoff Championship game on a pick-six against Alabama in 2019. He is projected to be an NFL starter. He was selected as the Class AAAAAAA player of the year in Georgia by the Coaches Association. He was named first-team all-state by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in 2016. He grabs took much which will lead to penalties, according to ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. It has a good speed to mirror wide receivers. He’s durable and didn’t miss a game in his three seasons at Clemson. He was also inconsistent as a Blitzer.

Declared for the NFL Draft his junior year… Finished his collegiate career with 92 defensive stops (65 solos), six interceptions, 22 pass breakups, 4.0 sacks and 7.0 tackles for loss in 34 games. 2019: Appeared and started in nine games for the Gators, collecting 32 tackles (25 solos), 2.0 tackles for loss (6 yds.), one sack for nine yards, and 11 pass breakups.

Had a career-high 1.5 tackles-for-loss against Michigan in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl… Notched his first-career sack and forced fumble against Colorado State in Week 3…

After being named as a Preseason Second Team All-SEC player, he earned Coaches’ All-SEC Second Team honors and Athlon Sports Third Team All-SEC accolades following the season. Member of a group that helped UF lead the nation in fourth-quarter opponent passing efficiency (66.25) and rank second nationally in fourth-quarter opponent completion percentage (40.5). 2017: Appeared in all 11 games throughout the season and started five contests… Recorded his first career start at Kentucky. Totaled 22 tackles, four interceptions (two returned for a touchdown) and four pass break-ups. Tallied his interceptions returned for a touchdown against Michigan and Tennessee in the first two games of the season and his career.

Became the only true freshman in UF history to return an interception for a touchdown in consecutive games… In addition, Henderson is the only player in school history to accomplish that feat in records dating back to 1965. Since 1996, he is also the only true freshman in the nation to have returned interceptions for touchdowns in consecutive games. Tied for second in the nation overall with his two-interception returned for touchdowns and he was one of 13 true freshmen to have recorded at least one pick-six during the season.

From that list, only two freshmen, including Henderson, had two INT returns for touchdowns. Finally, he is now tied for first in program history for most interceptions returned for a touchdown in a season, with the all-time record for a career being four. His four interceptions tied Duke Dawson for the team lead and are ranked 29th in the nation and third in the SEC. Dawson and Henderson recorded back-to-back INT return touchdowns in consecutive series against Michigan.

They became the first CB tandem to accomplish that feat since Teez Tabor and Quincy Wilson did so against Missouri in 2016. Earned Second Team All-SEC honors by the AP and Third Team All-SEC accolades from Phil Steele. Picked up Freshman All-SEC honors by the league’s Coaches.
