Clare Akamanzi, an accomplished Rwandan lawyer, public administrator, businesswoman, and politician, has emerged as a prominent figure in the realms of law, administration, and international affairs.

Behind her trailblazing career lies a narrative deeply rooted in her family, notably her parents, whose resilience and determination have played a crucial role in shaping Akamanzi’s journey.

Born in 1979 in Uganda, Clare Akamanzi entered the world as the fourth-born in a family of six siblings. Her parents, Rwandan refugees navigating challenging circumstances, instilled in her the values of perseverance and adaptability from an early age.

The family’s constant relocation within Uganda, a result of their refugee status, created an environment that fueled Akamanzi’s early education. In pursuit of knowledge, Akamanzi undertook her pre-university education in various parts of Uganda.

Akamanzi’s academic journey began at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda’s capital, where she earned her Bachelor of Laws. Subsequently, she honed her legal skills at the Law Development Centre, also in Kampala, obtaining a Diploma in Legal Practice. This educational foundation laid the groundwork for her illustrious career in law and public administration.

The pursuit of excellence led Akamanzi to broaden her horizons internationally. She earned her Master of Laws in trade and investment law from the University of Pretoria in South Africa, expanding her expertise in legal matters with a focus on trade and investment dynamics.

Not content with her already impressive academic achievements, Akamanzi sought to enhance her understanding of public administration. She earned a Master’s in Public Administration from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, solidifying her credentials as a multifaceted leader poised for impact on the global stage.

Akamanzi’s commitment to excellence and contributions to society were recognized in June 2018 when she received an honorary degree in Laws from Concordia University. This prestigious acknowledgment reflects her significant influence not only in legal and administrative spheres but also in promoting positive change and development.
