In the A Different World episode of the Cosby Show spinoff which followed Denise (Lisa Bonet) to college, the actor and singer Jasmine Guy gained prominence for her role of Whitley Gilbert.

For her performance on the show, Guy won four consecutive Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series NAACP Image Awards from 1990 to 1993.

She played Roxy Harvey in Dead Like Me and Sheila “Grams” Bennet on The Vampire Diaries, respectively. Her most recent appearance was as Richard Webber’s friend and potential love interest Gemma in Grey’s Anatomy.

Although Whitley has since moved on to other endeavors, the actor who played her is now a well-known personality in Hollywood. To find out more about Guy’s activities, keep reading.

Jasmine Guy Death Hoax

Jasmine Guy is still alive. Guy made her television acting debut in seven non-speaking episodes of the drama Fame, directed by Debbie Allen, in 1982.

Even today, Guy is most known for playing Whitley Gilbert in the sitcom A Different World, in which she also appeared. From 1987 until 1993, NBC broadcast a Bill Cosby-produced spinoff of The Cosby Show.

She debuted as a co-star, but after Lisa Bonet left the series, she replaced her as the show’s lead. Guy appeared in every episode while also writing three and directing one. She was a six-time recipient of the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.

Guy made her acting debut in Spike Lee’s 1988 musical drama School Daze. She adopted the persona of Dina, a member of Gamma Ray, a women’s auxiliary of the fraternity Gamma Phi Gamma, an African American woman with light skin and straight hair.

Before traveling to France to take part in a similar musical revue, she made her stage debut in the iconic off-Broadway musical Beehive in 1987.

More About Jasmine Guy Family

Previous connections between Jasmine Guy and other musicians exist. She allegedly dated Eddie Murphy while they were co-stars on Harlem Nights and covertly dated Dominic Hoffman, who portrayed Julian in A Different World.

She would serve as executive producer of a movie on the activist artist’s mother, Afeni Shakur. The latter was close friends with the rapper Tupac Shakur. She also wrote a biography of Afeni, which was published in 2005.

The actor and consultant Terrence Duckett were wed from 1998 to 2008. The couple’s daughter, Imani Duckett, was born in 1999.  Guy and Duckett announced their divorce on April 8, 2008, citing irreconcilable differences after ten years of marriage. Guy and her daughter moved to Guy’s hometown of Atlanta the following year.

Guy has shared some of her daughter’s artwork on her Instagram; like her mother, she is an actress and a visual artist.

What Happened To The Actress Jasmine Guy?

Just in case you were curious, Jasmine Guy didn’t disappear; instead, she has been hanging out quietly and, it would seem, keeping to herself regarding her professional life.

She was among those who dominated the sitcom industry for a period since Bill Cosby developed her program, A Different World, which was a Cosby Show spinoff. She joined the show as a costar and eventually took Lisa Bonet’s place as the main attraction.

Although it didn’t quite reach The Cosby Show’s degree of fame during its run from 1987 to 1993, the program was nonetheless regarded as one of the greatest on television at the time.

It’s challenging to describe, but it seemed like more was being permitted on television and that the lines drawn and couldn’t be crossed were constantly being struck.
