According to a Friday statement from the Mexican Football Federation (FMF), Diego Cocca has been named as the team’s new manager.

Tigres of Liga MX had disclosed in a statement that they had terminated Cocca’s contract as manager with an agreement already in place for him to take over the national team, effectively confirming the move on Thursday.

Cocca is currently in command of a squad that underperformed by losing in the group stage of the World Cup in Qatar last year. The 2026 World Cup will be co-hosted by Mexico, the United States, and Canada.

At his introduction, Cocca remarked, “I really feel happy, I feel proud, and I feel privileged to be able to be the coach for the Mexican national team.”

“We’re going to identify players who feel proud, that’ll come to give their all, and that feels like arriving to the national team is a privilege,” he continued.
