Francesca Reale Stranger Things

Francesca is more excited about the show’s season three premiere. On season three, she plays Heather, a pretty lifeguard at the Hawkins community pool who, alongside Billy Hargrove (played by Dacre Montgomery) becomes the center of the season’s driving mystery. It’s a role that’s been shrouded in secrecy since her casting was announced, but now that the show is finally out, expect to see—and hear—plenty more from Reale.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Reale was also interested in the idea of performing. “I’ve always had a knack for performance in my private life. And my public life… I’m a drama queen,” she said. “I wanted to act when I was younger, but I was in it for the wrong reasons. I wanted the Hillary Duff life, the fame portion of it.” It wasn’t until college, however, that she began to see acting as a viable career path, transferring to NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts her sophomore year, where she also studied business at Stern. “I cannot recommend taking a class in business of entertainment more to any up-and-coming actor,” she said. “You go and meet all these agents, and you get these contracts, and it’s nice to be able to understand the language and not be completely lost, like, ‘What if I’m signing away my life?’ Because so much of the beginning you are doing it alone.”

Post-graduation, she immediately began auditioning for roles. “It was interesting,” she said, laughing at the memory of those first auditions. “One of my first ones, which I actually ended up booking, was to be a girl walking in the park on Blue Bloods. I was so excited. I die five minutes later [in the scene]. But it was a job, and I thank them.” Soon after, she also booked her first big role, as Miranda Sings’s sister of the Netflix series Haters Back Off. The show, which lasted for two seasons, had Reale relocate from New York to Vancouver, a new hotspot for television. “It was stressful, scary, and very exciting,” she said.

Francesca Reale Haters Back Off

What made you want to work on “Haters Back Off”?

I didn’t have a ton of the scripts when I started, so I didn’t know the storyline very well, but I was intrigued by how strong the female presence was on the show. You have Colleen, who is the star, but she’s also the creator and the writer. We have this wonderful woman Gigi who is another executive producer.

There’s just a really strong female base in the show, so I thought that was very cool — to be on a show on Netflix that has strong female characters on and off the screen. When I actually got the scripts to the show, I thought it was hysterical, but it also had a very real-life touch to it. You don’t see that in a ton of comedies, it’s just slapstick until the end, or the joke goes on forever, but her and her brother wrote it so that it takes a really nice turn — or not so nice — but a turn to reality and focuses on the hardships of trying to become a star.

Netflix has become a major player in the entertainment industry in the past few years, what is it like working with them and to be a part of this huge wave?

Well, this is my first job so this is the first company I’ve really worked with. I have to say, they have made the transitions all very easy, even when they weren’t. I got cast two days before we started filming, and everyone at Netflix was so on it.

Netflix had my flight, they had this and that. They wanted it to be as easy as possible for me to move, they asked if I needed any help getting stuff out of my apartment. Prior to this, they were extremely accommodating.

I think they knew how frazzled I was, to the point where they wanted to make sure I got to Vancouver sane and safely before working, and I find that a fantastic quality in any company. They try to take everyone’s position on the set as valuable and do whatever they can to make sure everyone is working on a happy set because the worst thing is working on a bad set.

Francesca Reale Stranger Things Interview

First of all, what can you tell us about your character (no spoilers, please!)?

“I had auditioned for the role that Maya Hawke actually ended up getting cast in. I had one audition and I don’t think it was that good.

And then I got another audition for Heather, and all they said was: “Heather, recurring, popular lifeguard at the community pool that’s tied up in a mystery.” That was it. On the contrary, actually didn’t even give me a scene from the show, they gave me what we call ‘dummies’, something from a movie that has already come out, or been out for a while.”

Were you a fan of Stranger Things before watching the show?

“Of course. I actually started watching the show pretty late. This is in the first season right before the second season came out, but I hadn’t seen it before that. And then I just became a fan.”

Besides, the cast seems like they’re a pretty tight-knit group. What was it like joining them for season three?
“I was pretty scared to be honest, because like you said, you’re on a show for a couple of years and you kind of become your own close family.

Furthermore, that can be kind of intimidating as a newcomer. It can really be a hit or miss on sets. You either get a sense of people being really cold or mean or snobby, or you get on one where there really is a warm family vibe, and Stranger Things was definitely one with a warm family vibe. The directors were amazing, the cast was amazing, the crew was amazing.”

What can we look forward to for season three, for those who are yet to watch it?

“Something for me that I was really looking forward to when I was auditioning because I am a fan of the show, was just the idea that it’s in summer. Besides, I think it’s really, really cool that it’s going to be a completely different season, we’re so used to seeing these people in fall, and winter, which have such different energy altogether.

However, the energy of the characters is going to be very different because they get to be outside and at the Starcourt Mall. The first few seasons were really amazing but this has different energy altogether. They step up their game in every way possible. I can’t wait for you guys to watch it!”

Francesca Reale Colleen Ballinger

One of those arrangements, which debuted in 2016, is “Haters Back Off” – a demonstrate that pursues the life of Miranda Sings, genuine comic Colleen Ballinger’s anecdotal YouTube character. The show is a satire that was composed by Ballinger herself and highlights an assortment of characters.

One of those characters, her sister Emily, is played by best in class entertainer Francesca Reale.

Despite the fact that Reale might be fresher to the acting scene, she’s certainly becoming famous.

We got the opportunity to converse with Reale about her time went through with Ballinger, her guidance for hopeful entertainers and that’s just the beginning. Look at that meeting underneath!

What has it been similar to working with Colleen on the show and getting the chance to be a piece of her vision?

It’s been staggering, absolutely on the grounds that she has a dream. It’s a solid vision, and alongside that, she has a solid voice that joins it.

As a female working in an industry where females can truly battle, it has been a benefit and extremely extraordinary exercise to work with an extremely solid female who won’t let anybody advise her in an unexpected way.

She realizes her character so well, and she’s constantly open to assessments and changes, yet toward the day’s end, she knows the character in reverse and advances.

She will put her foot down when she realizes something isn’t a Miranda quality or isn’t a piece of her reality. When I previously observed it I was somewhat frightened. I pondered internally, she will get hollered at or something – she’s simply telling the set individuals what’s going on.

By the day’s end, the show turned out astounding, and all in view of these little changes and things she was explicit about. She utilized her voice and her vision. I am simply excited to work with her.

She realizes how to state it all in an extremely pleasant manner, notwithstanding when she’s putting her foot down everything falls off exceptionally decent. It’s difficult to be frantic at her. It’s an exceptionally interesting method for having the option to converse with other individuals.
