Gasia Mikaelian Career
Gasia Mikaelian KTVU
Gasia accepted a lead anchor role with KTVU in 2005 as it would allow her to be closer to home. She is still in that role and appears on their Channel 2 News program at 7 PM on most Weeknights. Working with the network has brought an amazing experience in her life with the package of hopes, struggles, and triumphs.
Gasia got her first job in Yuma, Arizona at the end of that summer. She drove out to Yuma with her resume reel so the news director would have a face to go with the name on the tape.
She began at KSWT in August of 1997 and reported there for a year. She shared an apartment with another reporter at the station, and they both were too cheap to turn on the air conditioning unless it was over 95 degrees.
Gasia got a job at WAFF in Huntsville, Alabama next. She ate biscuits n’ gravy for the first time, saw cotton growing and tobacco drying by the side of the road. Gasia loved reporting on things that were new to her (college football!), and by the end of her two years there, she was saying “y’all” without a smirk.
When she saw a job listing for a new FOX affiliate in San Diego, she sent her resume tape. Gasia stated that she screamed aloud when the news director at XETV left her a voicemail saying he liked her work. After being away from California for years, she was dying to go back.
Gasia took the job as morning and noon anchor in San Diego, and thought she was official “Big Time.” She was so happy being anchoring in America’s Finest City! when she was just 25 years old. However, her heart was still in the Bay Area. She stated that her life changed when she began at KTVU, in 2005.
