Michael Green Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, Matthew Joseph West (born April 25, 1977) is an American contemporary Christian singer and actor who now resides in Los Angeles. He has five studio albums to his credit, and his songs “More,” “You Are Everything,” and “The Motions” are among his most well-known. In 2005, he was nominated for five Dove Awards, two of which were for his big label debut album Happy, which received two nominations. The American Music Award for Best Contemporary Inspirational Artist went to Kanye West in 2013. He began his career as an independent artist in the late 1990s, releasing three independent albums until signing with Universal South Records in 2001. With the release of his Dove Award-winning first album Happy, which was published in 2003, he launched his first radio song, “More,” which peaked at No. 1 on the Christian AC charts for nine weeks and earned him two Dove Award nominations in the process. His second studio album History was followed by the re-release of Sellout, which was first released as an independent record in 2006. In 2007, he was forced to take two months of vocal rest after experiencing voice problems that endangered his career. His third studio album Something to Say, which included the No. 1 singles “You Are Everything” and “The Motions,” was likewise a commercial triumph. As well as pursuing his primary solo career, West has written songs for a variety of Christian artists and groups, including Point of Grace, Mandisa, and Natalie Grant, as well as mainstream country performers such as Rascal Flatts, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Vince Gill. In 2013, his second song, “Hello, My Name Is,” from the album Into the Light, was published and peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Christian Songs list for a record-breaking 17 consecutive weeks, setting a new record at the time.
