Miya Ali is the daughter of Muhammad Ali, one of the legendary boxer’s nine children. As is often the case with truly loved and famous personalities, Miya was dragged into the limelight for having a celebrity father. While her father has since passed on, she has remained popular and for many, is part of the legacy the late heavyweight champion left behind.

Apart from being a child of her father, another thing that has endeared her to the multitude of people who think highly of Ali is the fact that she seems to be one of the boxer’s favorite children. This has led to the scrutiny of her personality and private life with many hoping to fish-out the similarities between father and daughter.

Miya Ali Grew Without Knowing Her Father was a Big Deal

Miya Ali was born in 1972 and was mostly raised by her mother Patricia Harvell. She schooled at a public high school named Teaneck High School located in Bergen County, New Jersey before later furthering her studies.

Because her father was not married to her mother and had had several women who bore him many kids, Harvell and Miya received little attention from the public until when she got older and formed a unique bond with her father. At this point, the young girl realized her father was someone a lot of people admired – a charismatic three-time heavyweight boxing champion the world loved.

This particularly dawned on her in July 2012 when Ail served as the titular bearer of the Olympic flag at the opening of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. She was mesmerized to witness people in tears as her dad lit up the event.

In Ali’s lifetime, he was without a doubt one of the most compelling and inspiring personalities to have lived. He died on June 3, 2016, at the age of 74, at a hospital in Phoenix where he had been living after being hospitalized for respiratory problems related to Parkinson’s disease, a disease he had been diagnosed with in the 1980s. The late legend dominated boxing all through the 1960s and 1970s, taking the heavyweight title three times.

George W. Bush bestowed him with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005 and in most polls, he has emerged as the most influential sportsman of the 20th century.

Members of the Very Large Ali Family

Miya Ali’s father married his first wife, Sonji Roi, in 1964 and they lasted for two years together before the marriage was dissolved in 1966. A year after, he married his second wife, Belinda Boyd, who later changed her name to Khalilah. While together, they had three daughters and a son; Maryum (born 1968), twins Jamillah and Rasheda (born in 1970), and Muhammad Ali, Jr. (born in 1972). Their marriage eventually came to an end in 1977 probably due to her husband’s infidelity.

Ali had an affair with the woman who would then become his third wife, Veronica Porsche. The two first had a daughter named Hana and by the time they exchanged marital vows, Veronica was expecting another child, Laila Ali who was born in December 1977. By 1986, Ali and Veronica parted ways, giving room for him to marry his fourth wife and widow, Yolanda Williams, in the same year. Together, the pair who had been friends since 1964, adopted a son named Assad Amin.

Making Sense of The Mystery Surrounding Miya Ali’s Birth

So where does Miya Ali come in? Well, in addition to the seven offsprings mentioned above, Muhammad Ali also had other children, including daughters Miya and Khaliah Ali.

Veronica Porsche was not the only woman the iconic boxer had an extra-marital affair with. This is because Miya Ali was said to have been born in 1972, which would mean that her father had more than one affair during that time. But while all the other wives and lovers of Muhammad Ali were dragged into the spotlight, Miya’s mother has been able to keep a low profile.

In all, Miya Ali has one sister from her mom and 7 half-siblings making it 8 siblings (two boys and six sisters). They are Laila, Rasheda, Hana, Asaad, Maryam, Jamillah, Khaliah, and Muhammad Ali Jr.

How Miya Sees Her Father

Miya Ali seems to respect her father a lot although all of her siblings have given differing views about the boxer’s family life. One of her step-siblings, Muhammad Ali Jr., was said to have been estranged from their father for a long time before his death. Also, her younger and popular half-sister Laila had issues with him over her choice to go into boxing.

Khalilah, another love child Muhammad Ali had while he was still married to Belinda Boyd, in her memoir titled Butterflies and Bees: A Woman’s Search for Her Father, described him as a champion in boxing but not in fatherhood. According to her, she wasn’t happy with her father for abandoning her.

As for Miya, she seems to have gotten quite along with her dad. At any chance she gets, she describes her father in glowing terms, including when she talked about him in a video she did for Marchon FilmFest. Because of this, she has over the years come to be regarded as Ali’s favorite child. Miya has also taken after her late father’s giving streak. In the Marchon FilmFest video, she said one of her favorite sayings of her dad is: “what you do on this earth is the rent you get to pay to get into heaven.” For this reason, she is active when it comes to supporting charitable and philanthropic causes that promote the welfare of others.
