Jim Creeggan Biography

Jim Creeggan is the bassist for Canadian alternative rock band Barenaked Ladies (BNL) and occasional back-up vocalist for the rock band Ottawa Valley Heavy Pucks.

He plays the double bass regularly, both bowed and pizzicato. He also played electric double bass and BNL bass guitar. He received the Gibson Guitar Company Best Male Bassist Award in 1999. His double bass uses a French bow. He has played guitar on some Barenaked Ladies songs from time to time; mostly on songs that he sings lead. His first major songs contributed to an album for the third release of the band, 1996 ‘s Born on a Pirate Ship, featuring both “Spider In My House” and “In The Drink;” two songs composed entirely by Creeggan, and both on lead vocals with him. He would record another song for the 2000’s Maroon, “Inline Bowline,” but the track was left off the album (later released as a b-side / bonus track).

For their next album, the band introduced a new, more accessible writing process, and some of Creeggan’s song ideas were developed into songs featured on 2003’s All to Everyone. Creeggan wrote and sang a song that was left off the album and released as a bonus track for the 2013 Grinning Streak, titled “Who Knew??.” Creeggan wrote and performed a song for the 2015 album Silverball, titled “Narrow Streets.”
