Jim Seals is a singer-songwriter and guitarist.

Seals was born on October 17, 1941, in Sidney, Texas.

As teenagers, Seals and Dash Crofts joined an instrumental group, the Champs, which had had a No. 1 hit in 1958 with “Tequila.” However, they left the band in 1963.

Jim Seals teamed up with his longtime bandmate Dash Crofts to form Seals & Crofts in 1969.

The duo scored Top 10 pop hits with Diamond Girl, Summer Breeze and Get Closer.

Though the Seals and Crofts disbanded in 1980, they reunited briefly in 1991–1992, and again in 2004, when they released their final album, Traces.

From 2000 to 2008, Seals embarked on various tours with his brother Dan Seals, billing themselves as Seals & Seals and performing their successful hits from Seals & Crofts and England Dan & John Ford Coley, Dan’s hits from his solo career, and a few original songs written between the two brothers.

Jim Seals died on Monday, June 6, 2022, in Nashville at the age of 80.
