Jonathan Van Ness Weight Gain: When Was He Fat?

In his Instagram post, Jonathan Van Ness revealed that in 2012 when his stepfather passed away, he gained 70 pounds in just three months.

Van Ness also mentioned that he was a chubby kid until high school until when he started his fitness journey. But after the passing of his father, he again started gaining weight. Being sad, he couldn’t stop eating and became 230 lbs.

Initially, before that three months, he was 165 lbs. Later, it took Jonathan almost two years to be in the best shape.

Van Ness started hitting the gym because he was worried about who would date him if he remained fat. But it later became more of a personal journey. In an interview with InStyle, Van Ness stated that gaining 70 pounds helped him teach the importance of body positivity and self-acceptance.

Jonathan Van Ness Health Update: Is He HIV Positive?

In September 2019, while interviewing with New York Times, Van Ness publicly came out as HIV-positive. Initially, in the beginning, he was nervous about opening up about his HIV status, but he wanted to tell his story to help others diagnosed with HIV.

He says that living with HIV is manageable; it’s the same way as diabetes, but make sure one has access to good health care services. During that time, he highlighted the client’s hair in the saloon, and later, he fainted. The next day he visited Planned Parenthood and found out he had been tested HIV positive.

Van Ness has talked more about the experience of being diagnosed with HIV aged 25 in his book, “Over the Top: A Raw Journey to Self-Love.”

It’s #WorldAIDSDay – I’m HIV positive & have access to my antiretroviral therapy that suppresses my HIV viral load, keeping me healthy & at an undetectable level which makes it almost impossible for me to transmit HIV.
