A huge chunk of his earnings came during his run with the promotion, and he currently holds a net worth of $40 Million.

In 2014, he made $64,000 for his fight against Rafael Dos Anjos, which included a $32,000 to show and another $32,000 win bonus.

Then at UFC 229, The Eagle would go on to submit the MMA Box Office King Pin, Conor McGregor.

He earned $6.6 Million after being fined $500,000 by the NSAC for the post-fight controversy.

Likewise, In a title unification bout at UFC 242, Khabib again submitted Dustin Porier for nearly $6.9 Million.

The Eagle has even made more money reportedly at times than his nemesis, Conor McGregor.

Take 2020, for instance; both McGregor and Khabib fought once and headlined their respective pay-per-views.

Khabib’s main event at UFC 254 against Justin Gaethje pulled half that of McGregor.

Yet he took home a disclosed $6.9 million, $3 Million more than McGregor.

McGregor might have made more with bonuses and incentives, but this speaks volumes about the importance and influence that Khabib has as a valuable fighter himself.

Career

Early Career

At the early age of eight, Khabib developed a passion for Martial Arts and started training in Wrestling, Sambo, and Judo under the guidance of his father.

The Eagle started MMA professionally in 2008 and was on a four-fight win streak within a month.

And in the next 3 years, he was promoted to Pro FC and was on a 16 fight win streak, fighting across Russia and Ukraine.

In late 2011, Khabib was signed by the UFC and made his debut in the promotion with an undefeated record of 16 and 0.

He defeated Kamal Shalorus in the first fight for the promotion and would soon go on to maul opponents like Gleison Tibau, Thiago Tavares, Abel Trujilo, and Pat Healy.

With such dominant performances, many fighters in the UFC tried to avoid a bout with Khabib.

However, the former lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos was not the one to back off from a fight.

RDA, with his Brazillian Jiu Jutsu expertise, was considered an equal match for The Eagle.

But Khabib would prove it wrong with a dominant unanimous decision win over the Brazillian.

UFC Gold

After the win, Khabib was 6 and 0 in the UFC, a record plenty good for a title shot.

However, The Eagle would have to maul Darrel Horcher, Michael Johnson, and Edson Barboza before finally getting a shot at the title.

Khabib was scheduled to face Tony Ferguson for the then-vacant UFC Gold, but the bout fell apart for the fourth time at UFC 223 when Tony suffered a knee injury.

The Championship call would then be answered by the world’s toughest real estate agent Al Iaquinta.

For the most part of the fight, it was Khabib taking Iaquinta to the ground and mauling him but, Iaquinta did respond with a few significant strikes.

Then came the much heated and controversial fight with Conor at UFC 229, where he defended his title by submitting the Irishman.

The event set the record for the biggest MMA pay-per-view event with more than 2.4 Million buys and the highest ever Mixed Martial Arts attendance.

After the bell, Khabib jumped the fence and attacked one of McGregor’s cornermen while McGregor was assaulted in the octagon by two of Nurmagomedov’s cornermen.

As a result, Khabib was suspended for nine months from the UFC, and his purse was withheld by the NSAC, which was later released.

Retirement

Khabib then successfully defended his title at UFC 242 against Dustin Porier and against Justin Gaethje at UFC 254, both being submission victories.

The Eagle lost his father and trainer Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov in May 2020 due to COVID -19 before UFC 254.

After defeating Justin Gaethje at UFC 254, Khabib hung his gloves, citing the absence of his father by his corner as the reason for retirement.

Despite several attempts by UFC President Dana White to bring the Eagle back for one more fight, Khabib stood with his previous decision, and his title was officially vacated in March 2021.

Khabib took a long and hard route to become the champion and idol that he is today.

He is the ideal UFC fighter as someone who doesn’t like the drama but is ready to ‘go’ whenever he is insulted.
