Age, early childhood and background details

In 1965 and on September 2 in London, England, Lennox Claudius Lewis was born to his Jamaican parents; the public has no information about them except that they were born in Jamaica. It is believed that he got Lennox’s name from the doctor who helped with his birth.

Lennox Lewis spent most of his early years as a child in England. In 1977, when he was 12, his family moved to Canada, to Ontario to be precise. While in Canada, he attended high school at Cameron Heights Collegiate Institute. He was on the school’s football, soccer, and basketball teams, excelling in all three sports.

Lennox is a British and Canadian citizen.

His boxing record

In 1983 Lewis made the decision to become a boxer and he started with amateur boxing. His first gold medal in boxing was won at the world junior championship that same year. The following year (1984), he attended the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, representing Canada. But then he lost the quarterfinal match against Tyrell Biggs.

Lennox remained in amateur boxing for four years, with the hope that he would win a gold medal at the 1988 Olympics. It was at the 1986 Commonwealth Games that he won his next gold medal.

In Seoul at the 1988 Summer Olympics, he won another gold medal, achieving the goal that set him back on his professional career. His amateur boxing career ended with 82 matches with 75 wins for him; 58 were by knockout and he lost 7 matches.

After his Olympic victory, Lewis returned to England with the aim of starting a career as a professional boxer. His career as a professional boxer started with many successful fights and in 1990 he won the European heavyweight title after defeating Jean Maurice Chanet of France. In 1991 he defeated Gary Mason who until that time was undefeated. The following year (1992), he triumphed over Derek Williams and won the titles held by the two men.

The most memorable victory of his career took place onOctober 31, 1992 in a WBC fight against Canadian heavyweight Donovan “Razor” Ruddock, the fight lasted only the first two rounds. This match proved his skill as one of the best heavyweights in the world; he lost that title to Oliver McCall two years later. However, Lennox Lewis had the opportunity to reclaim his title in 1997 in a match that has gone down in boxing history as one of the weirdest fights. McCall declined to fight after the third round, awarding Lewis the title by default.

On June 8, 2002 Lewis defeated Mike Tyson and once again proved to be a great boxer. Then, the match was the highest-grossing event to ever take place in pay-per-view history.

Lewis Lennox retired from boxing in 2004 with a total of 44 fights to his name. He won 41 of those fights, 32 of which were knockouts. The man only lost 2 fights; one was a draw. During his retirement, he worked for HBO as a boxing analyst between 2006 and 2010.

He is considered one of the greatest boxers of all time, breaking and setting records, some of which have not been broken by any other boxer.
