Leslie Herbert Wexner, the distinguished American billionaire businessman, renowned for founding Bath & Body Works, Inc., was born into a family with a rich heritage and a strong foundation in the heartland of Ohio.

Leslie Wexner entered the world on September 8, 1937, in Dayton, Ohio, the proud son of Bella and Harry Louis Wexner. Both of Russian-Jewish descent, his parents contributed significantly to the fabric of their community and instilled values that would shape the success of their son.

Harry Wexner, born in Russia, and Bella, a first-generation American, hailed from the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn before settling in Columbus, Ohio. Their migration to the Midwest, seeking new opportunities, marked the beginning of the Wexner family’s legacy in the heart of America.

Educated at Bexley High School, Les Wexner’s journey into higher education led him to Ohio State University. Despite initial aspirations for architecture, Wexner graduated in 1959 with a major in business administration.

His time at Ohio State also saw him become a member of Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity, reflecting a commitment to community and camaraderie. The pursuit of knowledge did not end with his undergraduate degree. Wexner briefly attended the Moritz College of Law, demonstrating his dedication to continual learning.

Wexner’s roots in Ohio run deep, and his family’s story is intertwined with the state’s history. The cultural richness of their Russian-Jewish heritage, combined with the American spirit of opportunity, laid the groundwork for Les Wexner’s future success.

From Dayton to Columbus, the journey of the Wexner family mirrors the trajectory of many immigrants who sought the promise of the American Dream. Through hard work, education, and determination, they contributed not only to their own prosperity but also left an indelible mark on the landscape of Ohio.
