Lester Don Holt Jr. is an American reporter and reporter for the week's editions of NBC Nightly News and NBC Dateline. On June 18, 2015, Holt became a permanent host of NBC Nightly News after Brian Williams was dismissed. Holt follows in the footsteps of Max Robinson, ABC News evening co-broadcaster, and Holt became the first African-American to broadcast alone on a television network every weekday evening. Holt is also known for hosting the first presidential debate of 2016 and has been lauded by Washington Post reporters for his role in verifying false statements. While NBC Nightly News has been the highest-rated evening news show of the Tom Brokaw and Brian Williams era for over 30 years, the ratings have fallen to second place after Holt started as a host.
