Lupillo Rivera, a Mexican-American singer, was born in La Barca, Jalisco, Mexico, on January 30, 1972. His father Pedro Rivera ran a record company and studio, while his uncle El Toro Rivera was a well-known fighter in Mexico.

In Long Beach, California, Lupillo was reared with his sister Jenni Rivera. After graduating from Long Beach Polytechnic High School in 1990, he pursued a musical career, which helped him achieve success as a regional vocalist in Mexico starting in 1992.

Lupillo’s family has a long history in music, since Pedro Rivera Jr., a Spanish-language Christian singer and ordained pastor of the Primer Amor Southern Baptist Church in Whittier, California, is a member.

Seven children total, six of them are biologically Lupillo’s children. When he appeared on the Spanish talk program Cristina with two of his young children, Lupillo revealed this knowledge.

Although Lupillo has had a successful career, he has also endured terrible things. He was asked to sing at a 2004 Iraq War dead Marine’s funeral, and he placed one of his well-known sombreros on the body.

In Guadalajara, Mexico, in 2006, Lupillo was a victim of gunfire that hit his SUV seven times as he was leaving a restaurant. The shooting’s origin remains a mystery.
