Bringing a radiant smile and fierce forehands, Naomi Osaka took to the courts in Brisbane on Wednesday, offering fans a sneak peek into her practice sessions as she gears up for a highly-anticipated return to tennis.

The four-time Grand Slam champion, who previously held the prestigious world No 1 ranking, is poised to make her comeback in Brisbane after taking a year off from the sport to embrace motherhood. Osaka and her rapper boyfriend Cordae welcomed their daughter, Shai, into the world less than six months ago, and now the tennis sensation is gearing up for her return at the warmup event for the Australian Open, set to commence later in January.

In a series of Instagram posts, Osaka showcased her unwavering skills, confidently delivering powerful forehands from the baseline. The glimpses from her training session captured not just her prowess on the court but also the camaraderie with her Belgian coach, Wim Fissette, at the Pat Rafter Arena in Brisbane.

Having last participated in the WTA Tour at the 2022 Toray Pan Pacific in Tokyo, Osaka is eagerly awaiting the draw on Sunday to learn about her first-round opponent in Brisbane.

Reflecting on her transformative journey into motherhood, Osaka recently shared intimate details of her labor experience, emphasizing the immense pain she endured. In an interview with InStyle, she acknowledged the challenges of pregnancy that often go unspoken, highlighting the contrast between the perceived beauty of the journey and its inherent difficulties.

Osaka’s openness extends beyond her personal life, as she has been a vocal advocate for mental health. The tennis star withdrew from the 2021 French Open, revealing her past struggles with depression amid criticism for her decision to abstain from post-match interviews. As she readies herself for a comeback, Osaka remains dedicated to being a mental health advocate, encouraging individuals to speak openly about their struggles and contributing to the normalization of mental health discussions.

Despite the challenges, Osaka stands resilient, not just as a tennis champion but as a multifaceted individual navigating the complexities of motherhood, mental health, and a triumphant return to the sport she passionately loves. As the countdown to her comeback continues, fans eagerly await Osaka’s return to the grand stage of tennis, where her indomitable spirit shines as brightly as her powerful forehands.
