Emmy Award-winning journalist and Health & Wellness reporter Sonia Azad is on the news segment News 8 Daybreak for the television station WFAA-TV in Dallas, Texas, a channel which she joined in October of 2015. Besides her time on the news, Azad is also a marathon runner and a certified yoga instructor. She has covered major news stories both in the United States and around the world and is a self-proclaimed workaholic. At the moment, the powerhouse reporter shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Meet WFAA’s Sonia Azad

Sonia Azad was born on the 17th of September, 1982 and is of Persian descent. She attended the University of Texas and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in journalism, then moved on to Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism where she graduated with a Master of Science in journalism. Azad also received a Master of Legal Studies from Northwestern University’s Pritzker’s School of Law.

According to an interview, Azad’s interest in journalism began as a child when she watched the goings-on of the Persian Gulf War on television. As she watched the reporters on screen, she thought to herself that she wanted to become one of them. She may not currently be a war correspondent, but Azad has proved her doggedness by realizing her dreams of becoming a journalist.

Before joining the WFAA family, Azad reported for TV stations in San Diego, Chicago, Waco in Texas, and College Station also in Texas. She reported the 2008 presidential elections between Obama and McCain, for the American University’s WAMU radio station.

Locally Azad’s other reporting jobs have included coverage on the medical aftermath of Hurricane Harvey that made landfall in Texas on August 25th, 2017. She was also on the reporting forefront when on July 7th, 2016 in Dallas Texas, Army veteran Micah Johnson opened fire on a group of police officers, killing five and injuring nine others.

In July 2012, Azad together with co-anchor Demond Fernandez traveled to Aurora, Colorado to report on the mass shooting which occurred inside a movie theatre.

In 2014, Sonia Azad notably reported on the gubernatorial campaign of Texas Senate member Wendy Davis, the Ebola crisis in Dallas, and also broke the news of Houston Mayor Annise Parker’s gay marriage.

Time and again, the journalist has proven that she isn’t one to sit around. She has embarked on many global assignments which have included the coverage of war crimes in both Africa and the Balkans, reporting on Iranians and Afghans seeking asylum in Paris, and also reporting on the 2003 Columbia space shuttle disaster for Star Television in New Dehli, India.

Azad’s hard work and resilience paid off when in 2011, she was awarded an Emmy for her half-hour special report titled Passage to India. The following year, she was named one of the best reporters in the state by Texas Associated Press Broadcasters. She is also heavily involved in community service and charity work. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Halo House Foundation which is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving people with certain types of cancer.

Does  Sonia Azad Have A Husband Or Boyfriend?

Sonia Azad’s first and only love, after her family, is her job. When she’s not traveling around the world chasing news stories, she’s in a studio teaching yoga, or out running a marathon somewhere. Even though there’s no time, or space for a significant other right now, Azad has expressed her interest in having a child or children with or without a husband.

In 2016, she chronicled a 24-day journey and experience with egg-freezing on her blog where she wrote that some of her friends had gone through the egg-freezing process and she had begun to think about it too. Even though she’s in no hurry to have children, she realized that her biological clock was ticking and whenever she was ready, she wanted to ensure that she had viable eggs that would eventually make her a mommy.

She gave a detailed account about the journey to egg-freezing and the processes involved complete with videos of her injecting herself with hormone-filled syringes, she mentioned that the intent of the posts was to encourage women to make plans for their future in motherhood and also to clarify the mystery surrounding the process.

On relationships, Sonia Azad mentioned running a marathon in Antarctica seems to be a more viable option than marriage. At one time, rumors surfaced about Azad and co-anchor Ron Corning being in a relationship. However, News 8 Daybreak replied a fan’s tweet asking about the two, with a tweet of their own stating that there was no romance brewing. Azad even posted a picture in September 2017, of herself on set with a life-sized stuffed cowboy referring to the doll as her “new boyfriend”.
