Timothy Bruce Cavey, widely known as Bruxy Cavey, is a Canadian author and former pastor who has recently faced serious allegations of sexual abuse, marking a significant fall from grace for the once-respected religious figure.

The allegations against Cavey came to light in December 2021 when he was placed on a leave of absence from his role as a teaching pastor.

A cloud of suspicion surrounded him as accusations of sexual misconduct surfaced, prompting the initiation of an independent investigation into his conduct. The investigation, which concluded on March 3, 2022, revealed disturbing details about Cavey’s actions over the course of several years.

The independent inquiry determined that Cavey had engaged in sexual harassment with a member of his congregation, with the inappropriate behavior originating within the context of a “pastoral counseling relationship.”

The findings were unequivocal in their assessment, pointing to a misuse of power and authority on Cavey’s part. In response to the severity of the allegations, his pastoral credentials were revoked by the Be in Christ Church of Canada, the denomination to which he belonged.

Further darkening the cloud over Cavey’s reputation, additional allegations emerged on March 19, 2022, as the church disclosed that two more individuals had come forward with accusations against him. These revelations underscored the gravity of the situation and raised questions about the extent of the misconduct that had transpired under Cavey’s leadership.

A significant turning point occurred on August 14, 2022, when the church publicly acknowledged the substantiation of the initial claims, characterizing them as instances of sexual abuse by a church leader. The church apologized for not promptly disclosing Cavey’s abusive behavior in March, recognizing the need for transparency and accountability.

The subsequent investigations into the additional allegations yielded troubling results, with two sets of claims substantiated as sexual abuse by a church leader and a third claim categorized as sexual misconduct. Shockingly, it was revealed that one of Cavey’s victims was underage when the abuse occurred, amplifying the severity of the charges against him.

The legal ramifications of Cavey’s alleged actions escalated when, on June 6, 2022, the Hamilton Police Service announced his arrest on May 31, 2022, on charges of Sexual Assault. Following his arrest, Cavey was released with conditions and appeared in court on June 27, 2022. The legal proceedings surrounding his case garnered increased attention, especially as a detailed account of his abuse of one of the victims was published on August 13, 2022.

In an attempt to address the mounting allegations, Cavey published a confession on his blog, acknowledging the gravity of the accusations against him. Seeking legal representation, he enlisted the services of Megan Savard, the lawyer who had previously represented former Hedley frontman Jacob Hoggard in a high-profile case. With the trial scheduled for February 2024, the legal battle ahead promises to be a critical juncture in determining Cavey’s guilt or innocence.
