Pen Farthing is a former Royal Marines commando and the founder of the Nowzad Dogs charity in the United Kingdom.

During the fall of Kabul in August 2021, the former commando decided to stay until his Afghan staff members and their families were granted permission to leave. More than £200,000 was raised by well-wishers to charter a flight to evacuate his employees, their families, and the animals in the charity’s shelter.

The British Armed Forces helped Pen and his animals get to the airport on August 27.

Due to the British government refusing to accept his offer to evict more people using those empty seats, Farthing left Afghanistan with them on August 28 as the sole traveler on a private jet capable of evacuating another 229 people.
