On February 14, 2022, Vincent Simmons had his day in court, when a judge would ultimately decide his fate.

In a recent episode of CBS’ 48 Hours, the story of a guy from Louisiana called Vincent Simmons is explained as he is accused of raping twin sisters in 1977. Vincent is finally released after 44 years in prison, having been cleared of all accusations.

A Black man was arrested for assaulting two sisters, Karen And Sharon, but he maintained his innocence and has been fighting to clear his name ever since.

Where Is Vincent Simmons Now After Getting Released?

After a long 44 years in jail, Vincent Simmons is learning to live as a free man. He went to prison when he was 25 years old and was freed on February 14, 2022, three days before his 70th birthday.

Karen and Sharon Sanders, both 14 at the time, informed authorities that on May 9, 1977, they were stopped by a stranger at a nearby gas station in Marksville, Louisiana. This stranger turned out to be Vincent, a black man they later identified.

They stated they were with their older sibling Keith Laborde at the time, and Laborde volunteered to drive the man in need.

Karen and Sharon Sanders later told investigators that the guy directed them to Little California Road, a dark, empty lane. The man then allegedly pulled their cousin Keith Laborde into the trunk and raped them there.

Vincent, who was 25 at the time, was apprehended while walking down the street in Marksville, Louisiana, just after Karen and Sharon Sanders reported being raped.

All We Know On The Vincent Simmons Case

A private investigator was engaged by Justin Bonus, a New York City attorney, to seek down and interrogate Keith Laborde’s cousin, Dana Brouillette.

Brouillette’s story was stunning. Laborde informed her at a bar long after the trial that Vincent Simmons was never with Laborde and the twins on Little California Road that night, she alleged in a sworn affidavit.

Instead, Brouillette claimed in the affidavit that Laborde told her “he had consensual intercourse with one of the girls and locked the other one in the trunk.” Laborde, she added, had scratches on his neck.

Brouillette told the private investigator that she thinks Laborde and the twins cooked up the Vincent tale to explain Laborde’s neck scratches.

Karen confessed for the first time publicly in an interview with CBS News that she and Keith Laborde had consensual sex when she was a toddler and he was a teenager, years before the alleged event with Vincent Simmons. She claims, however, that this has nothing to do with what Simmons is accused of doing.

Vincent Simmons Actual Story- Is He Innocent?

Throughout the lawsuit, Vincent Simmons maintained his innocence, claiming that he was unaware of the twins at the time of the alleged meeting.

Simmons was not connected to the crime by any means. He was tried for attempted aggravated rape on two counts less than 60 days after his arrest. He was found guilty by a jury of eleven white men and sentenced to 100 years in prison.

Following his conviction, Vincent was condemned to the Louisiana State Penitentiary, also known as Angola. Since the day he entered prison, he has been seeking to overturn his conviction.

In 1993, 16 years after his conviction, he finally got a copy of the prosecution’s case file and discovered facts that had not been viewed or heard at trial.
