He was born on May 5, 1962, in Greenwich, United Kingdom.

Mooney began his musical career in 1977 with the Anglo-Irish punk band, The European Cowards, in collaboration with John Keogh and rabble-rouser John Herlihy.

He later joined Adam and the Ants band between 1980 and 1981.

Subsequently, he formed the band, Wide Boy Awake with best friend John Keogh, Harley Price and Horace Carter Allan.

Wide Boy Awake released two EPs in the UK, including songs “Chicken Outlaw”, “Billy Hyena”, “Bona Venture” and “Slang Teacher”, some of which appear on 1980s various-artists compilations.

The band was managed by Mooney’s ex-wife Pamela Rooke.

Why did Kevin Mooney leave Adam and the Ants?

Adam and the Ants were an English rock band formed in London in 1977.

The group existed in two incarnations, both led by Adam Ant, prevailing from 1977 to 1982.

Kevin Mooney joined Adam and the Ants as the bass player in 1980.

He featured on the album, Kings of the Wild Frontier. That album was a hit in the United Kingdom and placed the band at the forefront of the New Romantic movement.

The album reached No. 1 on the UK album charts on January 24, 1981.

However, Mooney left the band in 1981, following a personal conflict and creative differences.
