After several calls, her father gave in and Yolanda was made president of the fan club in the San Antonio area. Due to the gradual growth of the club, Yolanda was given a job as manager of Selena’s clothing boutiques, Selena Etc.

Selena’s family then discovered that Yolanda was embezzling funds from the business in 1995. She delayed handing them over on claims that she had been raped in Mexico and needed medical attention. Selena took care of the situation by taking her to the hospital but the doctors found no evidence on Yolanda that she had been raped.

They returned to the motel and Selena demanded the records and Yolanda pulled out a 38 Taurus Model 85 revolver. She shot her in the back when she attempted to run away. Selena ran towards the lobby for help as she was bleeding out from the gunshot. The clerk called 911 but Selena died due to bleeding out in the hospital.
